“˜Rotary Community Stage”™ to make debut at fireworks display May 23

Local Rotarians hope a newly-acquired mobile performance trailer will help promote community events while also benefitting Groves hospital.

“The Rotary Community Stage” will make its debut this weekend at the Elora Lions fireworks display at the Grand River Raceway on May 23.

“We always wanted one but we couldn’t afford one,” said Don McKeown, an organizer with the Rotary Club of Fergus-Elora.

So the club jumped on the opportunity to purchase a used trailer from the City of Ajax and, after a bit of a facelift that included a new paint job, the club will proudly offer the  20-year-old trailer for rent to anyone in the community.

Of course, the trailer will play a vital role in future Rotary events, including plans for an expanded Canada Day celebration in Fergus this summer. But the main goal is to provide net proceeds from rentals to Groves Memorial Community Hospital in Fergus.

“We want to encourage venues and support events in the community, but also raise some money for Groves,” said McKeown.

The trailer, which is 28 feet long, 12.5 feet wide and nine feet high, features a hydraulic floor and overhead roof, two sets of steps and an extended stage option. It also offers a wiring and basic sound system as well as receptacles for instruments, flood lights and additional sound systems.

The Rotary Club will deliver and set up the trailer for renters and offer various fee structures depending on the length of rental and the type of event.

For more information on the trailer, which can be rented from June 1 to Oct. 31, call Don McKeown at 519-994-8626 or Bob Wright at 519-843-1783.
